Year 6 Parents Information Evening – Tuesday 7th July 2026
Parents are invited to come and meet the Headteacher, your child’s form tutor and meet key members of staff in school on Tuesday 7th July.
Wainwright and Taylor Parents Information Evening starts at 5.45pm and should be finished by 7.20pm.
Please use the Main Entrance and park on the Carpark and Tennis Courts, sign in at main entrance.
Paxman and Barson Parents Information Evening starts at 6.30pm and should be finished by 8.05pm
Please use the lower entrance and park on the Bus Park and Playground, sign in at the Hall doors.

The Transition Process
We know that it is a significant transition moving from primary to secondary school and here at Holmfirth High, we are working hard to ensure that your child experiences a smooth and happy transition. We have met with year 6 teachers to discuss who your child would be happy with in their form, and our staff are consulting with primary school specialists to ensure that we can best support your child with additional needs, medical conditions, or any other support necessary.
Your child is currently being placed in a form with other children both from within and outside of the catchment school area to ensure that a good balance is achieved in all form groups. We try to ensure that each child is with a friend identified by their primary school but also that there are equal numbers from the larger schools throughout the year group, along with an equal mix of boys and girls. We know how anxious some pupils must feel if they are coming from smaller schools or coming as an individual from out of catchment schools, so again we endeavour to put these children together. We also run extra transition afternoons for vulnerable and out of catchment pupils.
Year 6 Induction Day – Tuesday 7th July 2026
We look forward to meeting all our children on Tuesday 7th July when they will come and join their form and form tutor. They will also have an opportunity to meet their House. This will be a full day visit where children will enjoy sample lessons, can meet our school staff and will become more familiar with the school building. Pupils should bring a pen, pencil and ruler in a school bag. They may take part in a PE session so should wear a pair of trainers for the day. No extra PE clothing is required, just their normal school clothes. If your child does not wear a school uniform, we ask that they dress appropriately for school.
Children should make their own way here either on foot, by school bus or may be dropped off. They should be here by 08:45 and on arrival they should go to the main hall.
They will experience lunch in our dining areas whether they use our ‘Eat In’ servery or bring a packed lunch. Cash to the value of £4.50 (coins only please) should cover any purchases throughout the day. Any child on free school meals will have an allowance of £2.70. We suggest that pupils bring a refillable water bottle with them for the day. Children with food allergies MUST bring their own food as we are unable to cater for them on the day.
At the end of the school day, children will be released at 15:25 to either walk home, be picked up by parents or catch the school bus home. Our school buses leave at approximately 15:40. Please ensure your child knows how they are getting home.
If your child is carrying medication, please ask them to tell their form tutor. If your child is ill and unable to visit, please ring the school on 01484 691460.
Transition Parent Evening – Tuesday 7th July 2026
We would also like to invite you to our transition evening on Tuesday 7th July. Due to numbers, we split the evening into two halves and request that this is a parent or carer only evening. You will have an introduction to the school by Mr Stitchman, our headteacher, and will meet your child’s form tutor, heads of house and student leaders. You will be sent a letter and transition brochure the week beginning 29th June which will indicate which house and form your child is in.
The timetable for the evening will be published on our website nearer the time once houses have been released.
Moving on in September 2026
Once your child starts in September, they will be well looked after by our student leaders who will be assigned to each form. They will have the support of their form tutor, our heads and deputy Heads of House along with our pastoral team to ensure they have the best possible start.
